summer vs. fall

vintage crochet top - estate sale
kimchi blue skirt - thrifted!!! (best thrift score eva!)
gold montego bay sandals - thrifted

One of my favorite things to do is pair two unexpected things. Like this vintage crochet top and the fancy bubble skirt. Old versus new. Casual versus dressy. Dull versus shiny. Rough versus smooth.

And SUMMER vs. FALL!!! It's crazy hot here, and I am ready to wear sweaters, and boots, and SCARVES!!!

But I digress... the crochet top is a nod to the coming fall season, while the skirt and sandals admit it's still summer. :)

I'm starting off this Labor Day weekend with going to see some art tonight. What are your plans?

black and white and red all over

black and white kimchi blue top - urban outfitters
vintage red velvet pants - estate sale
rocket dog shoes - thrifted

Why red velvet pants?

Why NOT red velvet pants!

They are red. They're velvety. And they are vintage pants.

It's obvious enough to me. :)

no rules boho grunge chic

vintage hand painted shirt - estate sale
vintage flag patch jeans - yard sale
mossimo sandals - target
embroidered clutch - borrowed from my daughter

Mixing it up here.

The jeans are grunge. Straight out of the 90s complete with an American flag knee patch.

The shirt is totally boho, hand painted back in the 60s.

They came together in an unexpectedly chic way.

It's vintage style, people. There are no rules. ;)

pieced together

vintage quilted vest - yard sale
nude top - ...not sure
blanco jean skirt - thrifted
matisse boots - thrifted

This vintage vest is so amazing! It's quilted together by hand with so many pieces of vintage fabric. (Vintage fabric is one of my weaknesses!)

My inclination is to go hippie with it and not wear a shirt under it. But for the sake of modesty, I chose a nude colored shirt to showcase it.

I had fun with this outfit! Hope you enjoy it. :)

monochrome

silk gap blouse - thrifted
vintage striped belt - estate sale
vintage corduroy bellbottoms - estate sale
gold montego bay sandals - thrifted
black and white chevron clutch - white house black market

The idea of vintage corduroy bellbottoms doesn’t lend itself to dressing up for a night out, but that’s just what I did. I paired these with a silk top and gold sandals. The monochromatic color scheme ties it all together, and a sleek low bun, earrings, and nice clutch takes it up a notch from casual to upscale casual.

Did I mention corduroy and upscale in the same breath? A sartorial paradox of sorts, I suppose, but I do love how it turned out.

laying it out

I put together this outfit for a trip from Kansas, where it was 5 degrees when I left, to California, with a high of 77. Layering was essential. I wanted to be able to shed the leggings and sweater as soon as I arrived.

How do you pack for a trip? Do you lay everything out ahead of time? Or throw it all in at the last minute?
